Why do some teams contain players from different sports, and can you split them into separate teams per sport?

A team in our model represents the overarching organisation rather than a single game's roster. Splitting these into sport-specific teams would alter team identities across our platform, so we don't plan to unmerge them. You shouldn't need complex logic on your side, as the data is already partitioned per sport in the TeamProfile response:

  • current_map_roster_by_sport — the current roster grouped per sport. If you just need a CS2 lineup, read that entry and ignore the rest.
  • players[].sports — each player entry carries a sports list attributing them to specific titles. An empty list means participation isn't recorded yet, so treat it as unknown rather than an error.
  • Match context — lineups are single-sport by construction. Match.sport gives you the title, and Match.players provides the lineup for that match only.

Note: the flat current_map_roster field is now deprecated, since it only ever reflects one sport. Please switch to current_map_roster_by_sport if you still use it.
